Theodore Roosevelt's "Square Deal" domestic program reflected the progressive call for reform in the American workplace in the early 1900's, initiating welfare legislation and government regulation of industry. His "New Imperialism" greatly expanded US involvement in world affairs.
He was the youngest president and the first president to travel outside the continental U.S. (went to Panama in 1906). He was also the first American to win Nobel Peace Prize (for his role of peacemaker in the Russo-Japanese War).
